Blood Donor Requirements

Thank you for your interest in having your pet become a Penrith Veterinary Hospital blood donor.

There are some important criteria and information regarding blood donation that is important to know and understand prior to registering your pet as a blood donor.

What Is Involved?

We will call you if your pet is needed as a donor. If you are able to bring your pet in to us then you will be asked to do so. If not, we are often able to pick your pet up from you.

Your pet has some sedation so that they are relaxed and the process doesn't upset them, then blood is taken from their neck. Obviously only safe amounts of blood are taken with a sterile blood pack. Their is NO danger or possibility of picking up diseases in the process. They are then able to go home the same day.

While we don't encourage this the be the sole driving reason for donation, we credit your account with us $100 in appreciation for the donation and the commitment to helping others.

What Are The Prerequisites For Dogs?

Dogs are preferably over 30kg, but dogs of 25kg and above can be considered
